System Architect Machine Control

Job Description

Play a key position for the growth of Philips Innovation Engineering as System Architect Machine Control with experience in the high precision mechatronics and test and production equipment domains with applicability in the medical equipment area.

As a System Architect Machine Control, you will work in a multi-disciplinary project team of highly skilled technical experts from both Philips Innovation Engineering and our customers.

You will be responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, testing and integration of the SW and electrical part of the test and production equipment in the medical equipment domain.

Key aspects in complex mechatronic equipment are advanced motion control, accurate measurements, electrical drive systems and electrical infrastructure.

You are responsible for

Responsible for the architecture of a complete production line or machine; understands and communicates consequences of the design on the manufacturing of the product.
Structures the work with focus on customer needs and technological competitiveness, and keeps this outside-in approach in mind for designs he creates.
Is responsible for delivering input in the planning process to the project leader, commercial department and management.
Has contact with the commercial department regarding market demand and customer requirements in the longer term. Contacts with research centers, Universities of Technology, key suppliers, conferences regarding future possibilities.
Defines software architecture strategy, balancing long- and short-term views and balancing conflicting requirements (e.g. security vs. performance) in alignment with software leaders. Works with stakeholders to develop the architectural runway and spikes in support of new business features and capabilities.
Works with teams, customers, suppliers, software leaders and product and solution management to define and design at high-level a solution / platform (incl. solution / platform intent, information models, and documentation requirements) and ensures fitness of purpose by focusing on consumer needs and technological competitiveness
Delivers an optimal and consolidated software architecture / design, leveraging technology and evaluating design alternatives including cost benefit analysis
Defines system/items/units (for example components) and their interfaces, creating well defined building blocks, system options and scenarios. Allocates responsibilities to system/items/units, understands and supports solution deployment
Establishes and communicates critical high-level functional and non-functional requirements. Owns implementation of non-functional requirements in area of responsibility
Ensures good and up to date documentation of the architecture and implementation thereof and responsible for overall solutions / product quality
Influences and drives an accepted implementation of architecture
Collaborates with and coaches agile teams to take and implement the appropriate system/items/units design decisions balancing applying emergent design with intentional architecture (e.g. in inspect and adapt workshops)
Drives and coaches software craftsmanship. Might conduct also proof of concepts and code development activities
Supports in backlog grooming and release planning

You are a part of

The Mechatronics & Manufacturing Systems department of Philips Innovation Engineering that is responsible for specification, design and realization of high-end mechatronic solutions. In this department is the group Mechatronics Engineering & Technologies responsible for the electrical and software control of this equipment and products.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

Bachelor or Master in a technical profession
Typically, more than 10 years of software development experience, preferably in manufacturing process automation or test equipment development
Experience as Software Architect of at least 3-4 years
Solid engineering background
Profound knowledge of modern manufacturing equipment design approach and related tools
Profound knowledge of medical industry, including standards and regulatory requirements in Healthcare
Networks with colleagues internally and in universities and R&D centers
Analytical skills, architectural thinking and creation, switching from helicopter to detailed view
Influencing skills, team player, networking skills, negotiation skills.
Strong communicator (writing & speech), being able to communicate on all levels.
You are willing to travel up to 25%
Willingness to work at the customer location
