    Overview

    As an agronomist, you execute field agronomy and crop monitoring activities through Crop Track. You support the procurement of WER (Benelux) potatoes to ensure a continuous source of raw materials to agreed KPI's for cost, quality and service. Furthermore, you initiate and contribute to in-field and storage agronomy and quality improvement programs that generate sustainable business value by increasing field yield, crop quality and monitoring crop development / contract compliance activities whilst building front-line relationships with individual farmers withing the WER(BLX) potato program. You act as super-user of Crop Track in coordination with ESSA Crop Track Team.

    Responsibilities
  • Perform the requirements of Crop Trak super-user in coordination with the ESSA Crop Track Team.
  • Frontline accountability for basic agronomy support of NWE growers (~150 farmers / 280,000t) including management and execution of NWE agronomy and sustainability / PEP+ initiatives and CropTrak field monitoring system
  • Conduct in-field quality and yield assessments for crops monitored by CropTrak; train and manage farmers in using the tool and data submission in accordance with PEP data accuracy to time-bound KPI's
  • Implement and manage CropTrak store quality and volume assessment program across NWE growers – reporting every 2 weeks to enable accurate delivery scheduling meeting business volume and quality requirements
  • Develop and manage potato databases including grower self-declarations to ensure compliance with EU food safety regulations and compliance with GSQA / PEP Raw Material Safety Policy
  • Train and audit potato supplier lab staff, to enable compliance to PEP standards for delivery to factories
  • Provide key crop insights, leveraging external research and grower performance opportunities to drive future sourcing strategies and maintain future productivity agenda for NWE potatoes
  • Apply Global Control Standards in the processes under his/her accountability, comply with GP Policy and other applicable policies as periodically updated and communicated, and ensure correct execution and documentation of controls.
    • Qualifications
  • Very fluent knowledge of Dutch and English
  • Effective interpersonal skills – credible, positive energy and commitment that encourages farmers to implement ideas and perform tasks as requested by the incumbent. Typical interactions will range from farm technician to Managing Director.
  • Self starter with confidence to operate on own initiative and comfortable with driving and working individually or in small peer-groups on farms
  • Good level of business acumenBasic grasp of general business economics as they relate to agriculture including key cost & quality drivers and how to present Agronomy proposals around good business senseCommercial savvy with ability to listen to broader topics and provide inputs into commercial managers that supports contract and price negotiations with growersAnalytical skills – make sense of data captured during field and potato storage visits and ability to spot trends and present value add ideas to NWE agro team, line manager and farmers
  • Results and action orientated – comfortable setting and delivering against stretch targets
  • Good working knowledge of PC applications – excel, powerpoint,powerBI, Tableau and comfortable with being trained in detailed PEP PC storage and crop management applications
  • Profesional and productive reporting and communication capability
  • Knowledge of precision agronomy topics and skilled on new agro technologies arising on this area preferred
  • Awareness/ experience of basic agro sustainability themes
