    Job description

    The Research Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSW) at Vrije Universiteit (VU) is currently looking for a Research Data Officer. You will support researchers in the responsible collection, management, documentation, and sharing of data.

    Your Responsibilities:
    - Contribute to the implementation of research data management (RDM) within the faculty.
    - Provide first-line support for RDM queries from researchers and in the development of Data Management Plans (DMPs) within the faculty.
    - Assist researchers in managing and documenting data for reuse (Open Science).
    - Contribute to the course 'Writing a DMP' for PhD candidates in the Graduate School for Social Sciences.
    - Work closely with data stewards within VU.
    - Act as the primary point of contact for all questions related to privacy, data protection, and security.
    - Support the Faculty's Ethics Committee as a secretary in preparing and documenting meetings, and in handling and monitoring requests for ethical review.
    - Identify related issues in privacy, security, IT, and ethics, coordinating their resolution with relevant departments and colleagues.
    - Collaborate with the Head of the Research Office on establishing and implementing administrative management information on the above matters and contribute to research reporting.

    Requirements

    - HBO or WO level of education and thinking.
    - Knowledge of and experience with (supporting scientific) research.
    - Preferably, knowledge of commonly used methods and techniques of data management, collection, and storage, such as Data Management Plan (DMP), Metadata, GDPR, pseudonymization & anonymization, FAIR data.
    - Motivated to promote openness and transparency in social science research.
    - Knowledge of and experience with commonly used software for scientific research such as R, SPSS, Qualtrics, Excel, Python.
    - Knowledge of regulations in privacy, security, knowledge security, IT, and ethics.
    - Proficient in both Dutch and English (spoken and written).
    - Proactive and hands-on in coordinating multidisciplinary questions from researchers and handling them in consultation with relevant departments and colleagues.
    - Pleasant in communication, able to manage multiple questions and projects simultaneously.
    - Sets and maintains boundaries well.
    - Able to handle resistance and conflicts of interest effectively.

    What are we offering?

    A challenging position in a socially engaged organization. The salary, depending on education and experience, is a minimum of €3,377 (scale 9.0) and a maximum of €5,090 (scale gross per month on a full-time basis. The position is classified according to the UFO profile: Policy Officer 3/4 and is open for at least 0.6 FTE.

    The employment contract is initially for a period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension. Additionally, VU offers attractive secondary employment conditions and arrangements that facilitate a good work-life balance, including:
  • Up to 41 vacation days in a full-time position.
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus.
  • A generous contribution to the ABP pension scheme.
  • A choice model for the fiscal exchange of certain employment conditions.
