    Job description

    The Academic Language Programme (ALP) of the Faculty of Humanities at VU Amsterdam is looking for two lecturers of Academic English, each for a minimum of 0.4 fte and a maximum of 0.6 fte, starting 1 January 2023. As a lecturer with the ALP, you will teach courses in academic writing skills for students of various Bachelor's and Master's programmes, ranging from History to Computer Science and Health Sciences. In addition, we are looking for teachers who can also teach courses for PhDs or courses on presentation skills and who can perform various coordination tasks.

    Requirements

  • a degree in English language and culture, or a related field
  • ample experience in teaching writing skills for university students
  • experience teaching students from different academic disciplines
  • a PhD degree in a relevant field of linguistics is preferred but not required
  • availability for in-person teaching in Amsterdam; experience with online teaching


    • What are we offering?

    A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,226 (scale 10) and a maximum €5,090 (scale 10), depending on your education and experience. The job profile is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.4 FTE. The initial employment contract will affect a period of 7 months with the possibility of extension.

    Faculty of Humanities

    About the ALP
    The provides a wide range of courses and modules on academic communicative skills in English and Dutch to students from across the university. The ALP provides students from the academic writing and speaking skills they need to communicate effectively within their disciplines. Teaching within the ALP is dynamic, with individual courses and modules determined in collaboration with directors of various degree programmes.
