Over José Augusto dos Santos:

I am an experienced and driven product/UX designer who is capable of leading a design team as well as working independently to develop products and services, with expertise in interaction, visual design, prototyping, research, and (user) testing.

I am a designer who also considers the business side of things. In order to structure, simplify, and connect systematics, rationale, objectives, and solutions, 

I enjoy using both qualitative and quantitative user insights as data to support complex problems. Additionally, I'm committed to excellent usability and accessibility with a focus on keeping the end user engaged, involved, and satisfied, keeping stakeholders, business propositions, and conversion in mind. 

Despite the fact that I am not a programmer, I am very interested in technical possibilities and constraints in order to increase the viability and feasibility of a design, a concept, or a business proposal.

Team lead Navara Navara, 2019-2023, duration 3,5 years

Lead and UX management and product design

As a design team lead at Navara I was resposible for; leading and managing a team of designers. Setting and driving the design vision and strategy. Collaborating with cross-functional teams. Continuously improving the design process and team. The hiring, training, and development of design team members. Next to that I was responsible for the Navara Design System. I was the lead designer who supervised quality on visual and interaction of the design system. This is a white label design system that is used for greenfield projects and start ups within Navara.

 

Design lead DSO (NS & ProRail) Navara, 2019-2022, duration 3 years

UX design, user testing, prototyping, for the Donna application, a scheduling system for timetable and capacity allocation management

Along with several other product owners and business analysts, I worked on a new web application. As DSO's design lead, I am in charge of the entire user experience, design system, and strategy for the Donna application. I also managed several Devops teams and mentored other designers.

We developed, supported, and validated solutions based on the Design thinking methodology while working with stakeholders and Devops teams. To support this, I organized co-creation sessions with stakeholders, held weekly meetings with (end users), and used rapid prototyping sessions.

 

Team & design lead letsmove, Golazo, Navara, 2020-2020, duration 3 months

Team lead, UX design, user testing, prototyping, for the Donna application, a scheduling system for timetable and capacity allocation management

As the lead designer on the Golazo project, it was my responsibility to lead the design team that pro- duced the let's move digital product, which was intended to organize event-based sports programs. utilizing the design thinking methodology, my team and I completed the entire product design within a month, tested it with users, and I provided guidance to other designers.

 

Team & design lead Puppito, Nestlé Navara, 2020-2020, duration 6 months

Team lead, UX design, user testing, prototyping and validation for the puppito app

As the lead designer on the Nestle Puppito project (now known as ZigZag), I was responsible for the design of a business validation digital product aimed at training puppies. Working according to the design thinking methodology, my team and I designed the entire product in just one month, tested it with users, and I provided leadership to other designers. Thanks to our hard work and collaboration, the app was a huge success and has since become a thriving startup named ZigZag.

 

Product designer Salarise (start-up) Navara, 2019-2020, duration 8 months

Interaction design for a financial start-up, website & online platform

As the lead designer for financial start-up Salarise, I was responsible for designing their proposition.

I created the registration, onboarding, and flow processes, as well as user environments for different types of users such as financiers, application administrators, and investors. My focus was on ensuring that the user experience was intuitive, efficient, and visually appealing. I worked closely with the development team to bring my designs to life.

 

Design virtual assistant ABN AMRO Navara, 2019, duration 1 month

Visual concept-design virtual assistant

I designed the visual appearance of ABN Amro's co-worker chatbot, which assists employees with their ICT related questions and provides support. I created custom illustrations to enhance the overall aesthetic and make the chatbot feel more approachable. The result is a user-friendly tool that effectively addresses the support needs of ABN Amro's employees.

 

UX designer at Nationale Nederlanden Navara, 2019, duration 1 month

UX design & user tests for a new mortgage product proposition

As the lead designer, I utilized the design thinking methodology to develop a new mortgage propo- sition for Nationale Nederlanden in just one month. This was achieved through a design sprint that lasted one week. The design sprint allowed us to rapidly prototype and test ideas, leading to a more focused and effective solution. The result was a user-centered mortgage proposition that was both intuitive and visually appealing.
 

UX designer at PostNL Informaat, 2019, duration 6 months

As a product designer, I was involved in setting up the PostNL design system along with two other designers. I concentrated on developing a consistent and approachable visual language for PostNL's online products and services for both the business and consumer websites. Additionally, I was also working with another designer on another project focused on sending and receiving packages.

 

UX designer at ING Informaat, 2018, duration 1 year

Visual & interaction design of My-ING investment environment, mobile investment trading app & a new ING product wizard for (complex task / user-oriented) processes

At ING, I was responsible for creating the visual and interaction design of the new My-ING investment environment, as well as visual design for multiple scrum teams. Using the double diamond metho- dology, I designed new features within the ING mobile trading app and provided reusable UI libraries for various investment products. Additionally, I developed a new generic wizard framework that was widely used for various ING products and propositions.

 

UX designer Woodcare at AkzoNobel Informaat, 2017, duration 1 year

As a UX designer, I created a new digital identity for all consumer Woodcare brands at AkzoNobel. This involved using generic building blocks and unique styling for each brand, leading to the creation

of a Design System. I set up templates and developed reusable UI libraries, laying the foundation for a multilingual and scalable design system. I worked closely with a multidisciplinary scrum team to design the platform, ensuring a user-centered approach to all elements of the design.

 

Visual designer Dulux at AkzoNobel Informaat, 2016, duration 1 year

Visual design for global Dulux paint-platform

At AkzoNobel, I worked with a team of 3 other designers to create the visual and interaction design for the new digital identity of the consumer brand Dulux. I established a design system with reusable UI libraries and templates, and collaborated with a multidisciplinary scrum team to develop the plat- form. Additionally, I laid the foundation for a multilingual, scalable design system.

 

UX design for Human Capital Care Informaat, 2016, duration 3 months

Conceptdesign online platform My-care

For My-care, I worked with two other designers on the design of a new web application concept for the personal health platform. Through group research and analysis, we established design principles and held workshops to develop a new concept. Our concept was then refined and tailored to meet the needs of the Human Capital Care end user. As part of the project, I was responsible for the visual and interaction design.

 

UX design for ANWB Freelance, 2015-2016, duration 6 months

Interaction & visual design Wizgo a hybrid web & mobile app ANWB

As part of the Wizgo app project, I served as the lead designer, responsible for the visual, interaction, and motion design of the iPad and iPhone app. I spent the first three months developing various and new innovative proof of concepts, which were later tailored to the final Wizgo app design.

My responsibilities included designing all e-learning interactions, visual styling, and various types of questionnaires within the application.

 

UX design for Dutch Government (RCE) Schaap, 2015, duration 2 months

Visual & interaction design online collaboration platform

In this project, I collaborated with another designer to design a collaboration web application for the Dutch government's Department of National Heritage (RCE). During several sprints, we designed the application to meet the specific needs of RCE, taking inspiration from platforms like Basecamp.

My responsibilities included both the visual design and interaction design of the application.

 

UX design for de Heus Schaap, 2015, duration 2 months

Interaction & visual design Online Feed Academy

At Schaap ontwerpers, I designed a completely new responsive e-learning environment/platform (online Feed Academy) for Heus. My design work consisted of creating a new visual identity, visual design, interaction design, and various visual content such as illustrations and images. I also created new e-learning concepts tailored to specific courses and learning topics

 

UX design for Dutch Government (RIVM) Schaap, 2015, duration 2 months

Visual & interaction design facilitate the choice of prenatal screening for RIVM

In this project, I collaborated with another designer to design responsive online e-learning for the RIVM aimed at making prenatal screening choices easier for expecting parents. I designed the visual and interaction design for an e-learning platform that guides parents through a series of questions to determine their stance on prenatal screening.

 

UX design for Dutch Government (RCE) Schaap, 2015, duration 6 months

At Schaap designers, I worked with another designer on two responsive websites for the National Cultural Heritage department. One focused on Dutch monuments and one created in the new central government style. My design work consisted of creating a new visual identity, visual design and content such as icons illustrations, images tailored to specific topics and pages for monuments.

My work on the other website included interaction design and visual design.

 

Visual designer for Anewspring Schaap, 2015, duration 1 month

Visual design campaign website Anewspring

For Anewspring, I designed the website for their "inspiring learning journey" campaign. I focused on creating a visually stunning design that maximized the potential of images, videos, and text. The web- site also featured a new main navigation and various templates, ensuring easy navigation for users.

 

UX designer for Stedin Schaap, 2015, duration 3 months

Visual & interaction design "Eye for asbestos" e-learning

For Stedin's "Eye for asbestos" e-learning, I created both the interaction and visual design. The e-learning was focused on raising awareness of the dangers of asbestos in the workplace, specifically for Stedin employees. My design aimed to engage and educate the employees through interactive elements and visually appealing graphics.

UX design Permanent Court of Arbitration website

At Schaap designers, I designed a new website for the Permanent Court of Arbitration. My goal

was to create a user-friendly and accessible experience for visitors to the site. I focused on creating

a clear and intuitive navigation structure, and used research-based design methods to ensure that the website met the needs of its target audience. Through the use of engaging visuals and carefully crafted interactions, I was able to deliver a website that effectively communicated the mission of the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

 

UX designer for Peace Palace Freelance for Schaap, 2014, duration 2 months

As a UX designer at Schaapontwerpers, I designed a website for two parties housed at the Peace Palace, including the Hague Academy of International Law. The website offers a wealth of informa- tion for users, including information about the organizations and their work, as well as resources and tools for those in the legal field. The website's goal is to provide a centralized hub for users to access the latest information and resources related to international law. I was responsible for both the inter- action and visual design of the website, ensuring that it was user-friendly and accessible, while also visually appealing and engaging.

At Schaap designers, I created a new website for Smiths Veglia, a garage specializing in rare and exotic classic cars. The goal was to showcase their unique collection of vehicles and provide customers with information on their services. I designed the website with a focus on visually displaying the stun- ning cars and highlighting the garage's expertise and attention to detail. Through clear navigation, engaging visuals, and an overall user-friendly experience, I was able to create a website that effective- ly communicated the unique qualities of Smiths Veglia.

For the Porsche Classic Challenge event, I created the visual and interaction design for the new web- site to offer fans, spectators, and drivers real-time information during the race weekend. My design focused on creating a clean and user-friendly interface with clear navigation, engaging visuals, and easy access to rankings, statistics, and updates. The goal was to enhance the experience of the event and provide a reliable source of information for those in attendance.

As a UX designer for Yarden, I created multiple concepts for the company's home page and sales fun- nels. My focus was on utilizing my visual and interaction design skills to create designs that were both visually appealing and user-friendly. Each concept was carefully crafted with the goal of maximizing the website's conversion rate and providing a positive user experience.

As a UX designer for Ahold Delhaize, I worked on multiple online marketing campaigns to support the company's individual brands, including Gall & Gall, Etos and Albert Heijn. My role involved creating spe- cialized websites, landing pages, social media pages, and tailored emails to support their marketing efforts. I utilized my skills in visual and interaction design to create visually appealing and user-friendly experiences for each campaign.

Concept & analysis for a new responsive Triodos bank website

As a UX designer for Triodos Bank, I aimed to evaluate the impact of transitioning to a new responsive website. I designed multiple prototypes, considering the current content and technical data structure, to ensure a smooth user experience for Triodos customers. The goal was to create a seamless transiti- on and improve the overall online experience.

UX design for C1000 eFocus, 2012-2013 duration 8 months

Redesign C1000 website & multiple campaigns

During the period when C1000 was switching to the Jumbo store formula, I redesigned the website

in partnership with another designer. Throughout the transition, I designed the visual and interaction elements. Additionally, I was responsible for creating weekly campaigns for their website and various social media channels. My designs captured the essence of each campaign, engaging customers and driving sales.

 

UX designer for Medicore eFocus, 2012 duration 4 months

Visual & interaction design electronic medical record- platform for Medicore

At eFocus. As a UI/UX designer, I partnered with a Lead UX designer on the development of the new It electronic patient file system/ platform Medicore ECF web app. Together, we conducted a thorough requirements analysis and created a user-centered design, ensuring it was responsive and accessible on multiple devices. I created the visual and interaction design for this platform. In addition, I have designed different types of page templates focused on specific personas such as doctors, managers, receptionist, etc.

As a designer, I partnered with another designer at eFocus to create the visual and interaction design for the "de Agis zorg coach". Anative app for iOS and Android. We focused on creating a user-friendly interface to help users easily navigate the app and achieve their goals. Our design was driven by user needs and was aimed at making it easy for users to access and understand the app's features. To ensure seamless use, we also made sure that the app was accessible on both iOS and Android devices.

At eFocus, I collaborated with a content and interaction designer to create the visual design for the Royal HaskoningDHV corporate website. The challenge was to transform the new offline identity of the recently merged company into a meaningful online presence. We worked closely to ensure the website aligned with the company's brand and conveyed the desired message effectively. Our goal was to create a visually appealing and user-friendly experience for the website visitors.

As a designer at eFocus, I designed the international style guide for Heineken International. Heineken is managed by local markets and to increase consistency and scalability, I designed a digital style guide for Heineken International's global platform. The goal was to create a unified and professional look and feel for the brand worldwide. The digital style guide provided guidelines for local teams to keep Heineken's visual identity consistent.

As an independent designer I worked for Webpower and I was tasked with creating innovative designs for their marketing automation platform. I worked closely with their team to understand their needs and develop unique visual and interaction proposals. I utilized my expertise in graphic design, user experience, and digital marketing to create eye-catching designs that would enhance the user experi- ence on the platform. One of these designs was implemented later on.

Visual, interaction, strategic design concept for online application & tablet app

After receiving the logo design assignment from QC One, I was hired to create a digital web-based environment for vegetable and fruit inspection results as well as an app for capturing inspection results by a fruit inspectors. I created a strategic design concept that included a tablet application and an online environment (dashboard) for recording inspection results. I created an online dashboard so that clients could access their fruit and vegetable inspection data with ease. The iPad app enabled field fruit and vegetable inspectors to quickly record inspection results in a digital format.

As an independent designer, I was approached to create a new brand identity for a new fruit and vegetable brand named QC One. I was tasked with coming up with a design idea that would clearly express the brand's values and position it in a cutthroat marketplace. In order to create a design strategy that would differentiate the client from their rivals, I worked closely with the client to under- stand their vision for the brand. I developed a comprehensive brand identity that featured a new logo, typography, and color scheme using my experience in graphic design, branding, and digital marketing.
