    Join Our Team as the Head of the Department of Psychology at The University of Hong Kong - Faculty of Social Sciences

    Applications are now open for the prestigious position of Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology (Ref: at The University of Hong Kong. We are seeking a distinguished scholar with a solid commitment to research, teaching, and community engagement to lead our world-class department. The successful candidate will commence an initial three-year fixed-term appointment as soon as possible, with potential renewal and tenure consideration.

    Exceptional candidates may be considered for appointment on tenure terms, subject to approval. The initial term for the Head of Department position will be three years, with the possibility of renewal based on mutual agreement.

    About The University of Hong Kong and the Faculty of Social Sciences

    Established in 1911, The University of Hong Kong is renowned for its international standards of excellence in teaching and research. With more than 36,000 students from over 100 countries, and over 8,000 staff members, the University houses 10 faculties and over 140 academic departments and institutes/centres.

    The Faculty of Social Sciences, founded in 1967, comprises six departments dedicated to advancing research across various domains through strategic research clusters and diverse research methodologies.

    The Department of Psychology

    As the first psychology department in Hong Kong, established in 1968, our department has a rich history of academic excellence. Ranked 3rd in Asia and 36th worldwide in the 2023 QS World University Ranking in the subject of Psychology, our 21 faculty members and over 90 research postgraduates and postdoctoral fellows actively engage in a wide range of research areas.

    Position Description

    We seek a visionary leader with outstanding academic credentials and a commitment to fostering a thriving research community. The successful candidate will have the administrative experience necessary to lead the department, excel in strategic planning, and drive positive outcomes in our research and teaching programs.

    The Head of Department will demonstrate strong leadership, administration, and interpersonal skills and will be responsible for building extensive networks within the community and contributing significantly to the Faculty's leadership structure.

    Compensation and Benefits

    A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered alongside annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will also include a contract-end gratuity, University contributions to a retirement benefits scheme (up to 15% of basic salary), and housing benefits as applicable.
