Meng-Jou Hsu

I am a master's student at Utrecht University, specializing in regenerative medicine and technology. Additionally, I have pursued studies in biomedicine at my college. I firmly believe that my academic background provides a strong foundation. I have gained extensive experience during my two-year tenure, including conducting independent research for my thesis and working in various laboratory settings. These experiences encompassed a wide range of topics, such as gene-based research, 3D printing, hydrogel development, and technology optimization.
The reason I am applying for an internship position is my sincere desire to understand the inner workings of a cutting-edge biology company within the industry. This invaluable experience will undoubtedly guide me in making informed decisions about my future career path. By witnessing firsthand how such a company operates, I will gain insights into the practical application of biological advancements and further solidify my professional aspirations.

I am a highly motivated student with a strong background in regenerative medicine and technology. My experience includes internships and research positions in prestigious institutions, where I have gained expertise in various scientific techniques and methodologies.

During my internship at the Regenerative Medical Center in Utrecht, Netherlands, I independently conducted experiments involving 3D printing and bioprinting using techniques such as Digital Light Processing (DLP) and volumetric bioprinting. I also performed hydrogel experiments, testing variables such as light dose, initiator concentration, and GelMA prepolymer concentration. Additionally, I conducted cell experiments, utilizing staining techniques and imaging with confocal microscopy.

At the China National Gene Bank in Shenzhen, China, I focused on technology optimization. I tested conditions for DNA/RNA extraction and purification, contributing to a review paper on the quality of DNA, miRNA, and protein in different sample storage conditions.

During my time at Tunghai University in Taiwan, I conducted independent research on the transcriptional regulation of the unpaired3 gene in Drosophila. I performed PCR and cloning experiments, Drosophila organ isolation, and imaging with confocal microscopy. I also aided in vector microinjection and conducted literature research.

As part of The Flagship Program of Precision Medicine for the Asia Pacific at the National Health Research Institutes in Hsinchu, Taiwan, I underwent bioinformatics training and performed qPCR to validate gene copy numbers obtained by whole genome sequencing.

In addition to my research experience, I possess skills in 3D bioprinting, hydrogel printing, qPCR, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, DNA gel electrophoresis, and cell experiments. I am fluent in Mandarin, Taiwanese, and English, with proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R.

Throughout my academic journey, I have received awards and honors for my achievements, including scholarships for academic excellence and recognition in archery competitions.

In summary, I am a dedicated and accomplished individual with a strong passion for research in regenerative medicine. My diverse experiences and skills have equipped me to contribute to the scientific community, and I am excited to apply my knowledge and expertise to future endeavors.

I hold an M.S. in Regenerative Medicine and Technology from Utrecht University, Netherlands (2021-2023). Prior to that, I completed a B.S. in Biomedical Science at Tunghai University, Taiwan (2016-2020) with a GPA of 3.43/4.00. I graduated at the top of my class from Hsing-Hwa Senior High School in Chiayi, Taiwan (2013-2016), receiving the Chairman's Award.
