    About Ampelmann
Ampelmann makes offshore access as easy as crossing the street. Our drive is to make offshore access safer and have a great career in the meantime. We combine the challenges of a large globally operating company with a change-positive attitude and entrepreneurial spirit, hence our (2nd) Loonshot team Personal development and responsibility take centre stage at Ampelmann. Growing Ampelmann means growing you. Read more about the Ampelmann story here and have an 'inside look' here.

    What is a Loonshot?
A Loonshot embodies the idea of forming a small and agile team with a diverse skillset that will dive into a somewhat unconventional and looney, but immensely rewarding moonshot experiment. This Loonshot team runs as a start-up within one of the most innovative companies in offshore technology, Ampelmann Operations. With Ampelmann as your back-up, you'll play a crucial role in developing, building, and testing our new products based on the 'GDP'-technology.

Gentle Driving of Piles (GDP): a revolutionary pile-driving technique
The monopile stands as the predominant foundation for offshore wind turbines and is expected to maintain its status as the preferred choice in the foreseeable future. However, how can we provide an alternative to the traditional pile hammering installation of the monopile foundations, to solve its associated drawbacks such as high noise emissions and CO2-intensive noise mitigation measures?

Our answer is the Gentle Driving of Piles (GDP)-method: a groundbreaking solution This method is designed to enhance the efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of the pile driving process. It involves the application of simultaneous low-frequency vertical and high-frequency torsional vibration on the monopile. It's called "gentle" for its anticipated capacity to minimize both driving loads and harmful noise for the marine environment.

This innovative method has proven very successful in lab- and small-scale demo projects. Now, our focus is on enhancing the technology for full-scale implementation, where the true challenge awaits. The developed technology will eventually be integrated in the newly designed, constructed and tested pile driving tool, the GDP-shaker. This shaker serves as a means to demonstrate the effectiveness of the GDP-technology in the installation of large-scale monopiles with minimal noise, contributing to a reduction in environmental impact of offshore wind installation projects. With the ambition to have over 300GW of offshore wind power (corresponding with +/ XXL-turbines) operating by 2050 in the EU alone, the market potential for this new technology is enormous.

Your role as Production Engineer in this Loonshot Team
In this role, you will be responsible for the construction, assembly and testing of the subsequent generations of tools, from first test set-up to fully operational, certified offshore 'Gentle Driving of Piles'-shaker. The specifications for these tools are challenging to say the least, but the reward of success is more than spectacular: you can be part of revolutionizing the way we install future offshore wind farms.
