    Job description

    Climate change is real and we need to act fast. Our purpose is to restore the carbon balance in our atmosphere. We believe it's important to have a positive impact on society, the economy, and the climate. Are you ready to join us on our mission?

    We are at the forefront of innovation in Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. We're on an exciting journey to bring our cutting-edge solutions from prototype to market, and we're seeking an Experimental Physicist that will add value to the team thanks to the experience you'll have in Applied Physics.

    Role
    As our Experimental Physicist, you'll join the Research team. This team consists of 9 talented researchers, all having their own expertise. Think of Luuk, who's our expert in simulating our technology overarchingly. Or Arno, Anja & Cristhal who collectively work on increasing the lifetime of our Sorbent material. While everyone is having their own focus, as a Research team the mission is three-fold. Firstly, it's all about the sorbent we use to absorb/desorb CO2; secondly, it's the optimization of our ultra-fast-swing process; and thirdly, the focus is on upscaling the sorbent production to ultimately bring our DAC technology to the market to (most importantly) reach our mission.

    So, given the charcoal sketches above, we'll be able to zoom into your role. Essentially, it'll be your role to conduct experimental investigations and contribute to the development of cutting-edge adsorption and desorption solutions. While doing so, you'll be the subject matter expert when it comes to Applied Physics. You'll complement the rest of the team by challenging different concepts by looking at it through an Applied Physics lens. As an Experimental Physicist, you will specialize in Adsorption/Desorption tests by designing, conducting, and analyzing experiments and securing experimental continuity. Your expertise will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding and applications in this field.

    Responsibilities
    Although a start-up like Carbyon will be quite dynamic, and your role and therefore your focus might change from week to week, we have done our utmost best to capture your responsibilities which can be found below;

  • Design and execute experiments to explore adsorption and desorption phenomena, including material characterization, surface analysis, and kinetic studies.
  • Develop experimental setups, protocols, and instrumentation for conducting adsorption/desorption tests.
  • Conduct analysis and evaluation of test equipment to identify areas for improvement and optimization, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy.
  • Develop and manage documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintenance protocols and methodologies specific to adsorption and desorption test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to testing equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and efficient operation.
  • Provide technical support and training to laboratory staff on the use and maintenance of adsorption/desorption test equipment.
  • Perform data analysis, interpret experimental results, and draw conclusions to guide the development of innovative adsorption/desorption technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate experimental findings into the design and optimization of adsorption and desorption processes.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements, techniques, and trends in adsorption/desorption research to incorporate new knowledge into experimental methodologies.
  • Document experimental procedures, outcomes, and findings in comprehensive reports and scientific publications.
  • Why join us?
    We are a purpose-driven team of international engineers, researchers, and business professionals. We do not get easily discouraged and we join forces to ensure our dream comes true. At the heart of it all, there are people inspired by our purpose: reversing climate change

    We offer you to:

  • Make a real difference in one of the biggest challenges of our time - reversing climate change.
  • Become an integral part of our fun, diverse and growing multicultural team.
  • Experience the dynamic and exciting environment of a startup - where there is never a dull moment.
  • Take ownership and actively participate in the decision-making process.
  • Share and implement your own ideas - we believe the best ideas can come from anywhere.
  • Enjoy flexible working hours and the freedom to manage your work effectively - we trust you.
  • Join the daily team walks at the inspiring High Tech Campus.
  • Engage in monthly team events and activities such as jeu de boules or barbecues, fostering a strong sense of community.
  • Receive a permanent contract and enjoy our recently improved attractive benefits package.
  • Job requirements

    As you'll be our first Experimental Physicist we'll add to our talented team, we've quite some requirements you'll bring to the table. You'll have;

  • A Master's degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field with a focus on experimental research in adsorption and desorption processes with minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in designing and conducting experiments related to adsorption and desorption phenomena.
  • Else, Bachelor's degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field with a focus on experimental research in adsorption and desorption processes with minimum 7 years of hands-on experience in designing and conducting experiments related to adsorption and desorption phenomena.
  • Proficiency in using specialized equipment and instrumentation relevant to adsorption/desorption testing.
  • Strong understanding of equipment maintenance and calibration procedures specific to adsorption and desorption test equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to innovate and drive research.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey complex experimental concepts and findings effectively, as well as collaboration, and project management abilities
  • You are someone who demonstrates a strong work ethic and dedication to achieving Carbyon's objectives. Additionally, you demonstrate proven problem-solving and organizational abilities, and the adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. You actively engage in the development and application of project management best practices.
