And do you enjoy bringing together scientists from various disciplines and giving expert advice? This position is a great challenge for an enthusiastic networker with a heart for scholarly communication and open access publishing.

What you will do

Together with colleagues from the Center for Digital Scholarship (CDS) and the Leiden Open Science program, you help Leiden University to take open access publishing to a higher level.

As a Scholarly Communications Librarian, you support our academics in the process of creation, evaluation, distribution, and preservation of research work in an open way.

This includes traditional publications, such as articles, book chapters, monographs, and conference proceedings. It also includes other forms of scholarly output, such as data sets, code, preprints, working papers, and blogs.

In close collaboration with the Open Access coordinator, you help implementing strategic goals in academic publishing university-wide.

You do this by providing advice and support to Leiden's researchers and contributing to the ongoing activities, such as training and workshops.

You follow international developments in open access and scholarly communication closely and provide information to researchers and university administrators.

  • Handle queries and requests received by the Open Access team of CDS;
  • Engage in conversation with university academics and act as a publishing steward in their journey to adopting modern key values in scholarly communication and strategic publication;
  • Help raise awareness on publication policies and their practical implementations. Hereby you will contribute to opening up scholarly communication practices, shifting from traditional journals to new forms of sharing research work (preprints, collections, containers, etc.);
  • Support the team in data analysis underlying publication policy advice to faculties and institutes;
  • Identify new developments in publishing practices and translate those to the Leiden context by writing recommendations, reports, or guides;
  • Create and edit professional information using various communication channels such as website, blog and social media;
