    Functieomschrijving

As a Chemistry researcher, with a background in chemistry you have a key role in developing new ink technologies for competitive (industrial) printing systems. With your strong analytical skills, judgement, enthusiasm and good communication skills you realize the combination of an excellent sustainability profile together with all the functional requirements of printing technologies.

As a researcher it is your responsibility to come up with ideas, prepare and execute experiments, analyse and interpret the results and use the obtained knowledge to demonstrate the feasibility of your technological solutions.

In this position you are part of a small project team focusing on early-phase technology development. This team works on various topics aimed at large improvement steps in the performance of CPP products when it comes to sustainability and their fit within the circular economy. The main technical expertise of the team is in ink formulations and materials knowledge.

During your assignment you will get to know our organization and technologies, and we will support you to further develop your skills. We will ensure that you get challenging assignments and sufficient support (i.e. training) that fit to your personal growth.

The position is based at a R&D site in Venlo, the Netherlands.

    Typical activities:

    • Obtaining (state-of-the-art) knowledge on relevant developments in (ink) materials/chemistries that could be interesting for sustainable printing applications (literature search, webinars, networking, etc.)
    • Based on that knowledge, generating (testable) ideas for potential ink formulations and associated printing process
    • Converting such ideas into an experimental plan and carrying out that plan (connect with material suppliers, obtain the necessary materials, formulate test mixtures, coat or print layers, test material properties, etc.)
    • Reporting and sharing research results and providing input for IP generation.
    • Discuss and align with (internal) stakeholders on the routes that are explored, for example regarding interactions with other aspects of the printing process/printer architecture.
    • Collaborate internally with colleagues (e.g. R&D product development functions, Quality and Sustainability department, IP department) and externally in e.g. industrial-academic joint projects.

We're looking for a team player who has:

    • Bachelor or Master degree and a technical education, preferably chemistry (including chemical engineering, biochemistry or material science)
    • Solid knowledge of organic/polymer chemistry; a "creative chemist" able to select/design potentially suitable formulations for achieving desired ink and print properties
    • Effective work experience in such an innovative/creative chemistry assignment is considered a big plus. Experience/affinity with bio-based materials is valued as well.
    • Preferably a minimum of 2 years work experience, ideally within an industrial R&D environment
    • Ability to elucidate structure-property relationships, on a molecular level and on the level of a cross-linked (thermoset) network (learn how ink components/composition should be modified in order to influence print properties)
    • Combination of generating own ideas and plans as well as hands-on execution of the (experimental) work
    • Able to deal with (large) uncertainty, which is inherent to early-phase research. Even better: able to thrive on it and on the freedom that comes along with uncertainty
