Your position
As a central Data Steward, you will be working at the Research Data Office (RDO). The RDO is part of the Research Support team within the Library & IT Services (LIS) division.

The RDO consists of three central data stewards and focuses on advising and supporting researchers and support staff in the field of RDM.

The RDO maintains close contact with the data stewards working within the faculties.

As a central data steward, your tasks will include:


  • Supporting, guiding, and advising the research community on FAIR data and FAIR software, for example, in the development of data management plans or the selection of appropriate storage facilities for a research project.
  • Coorganizing, developing, and delivering training sessions and workshops on RDM, as well as ensuring good information provision and supporting materials (for example, via the RDM portal).
  • Reviewing and curating research data before they are published in our institutional data repository, DataverseNL.
  • Contributing to the development of institutional policies and guidelines in the field of RDM.
  • Collaborating with multiple experts, both within faculties (e.g., faculty data stewards), central services (e.g., university library, IT), and national organizations (e.g., SURF, DANS, eScience Center) to provide the best possible advice and support to researchers.
  • Monitoring (inter)national developments in the field of RDM and contributing to the implementation of appropriate services within Tilburg University to ensure an optimal infrastructure for researchers.

Your qualifications

  • You have a completed university education (WO level) and knowledge of the scientific research process.
  • You have affinity/experience with research data management.
  • You have knowledge of and/or interest in open science, FAIR data and software, and digital research methodologies.
  • Work experience in an academic or research environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of or experience with (research) software and programming is a plus.
  • Tilburg University is an international university, firmly rooted in the region and therefore bilingual.
We expect our employees to meet or achieve the language proficiency level appropriate for the position:
CEFR level C1. Of course, we offer you the opportunity to take an English language course to reach the desired level.

Our offer
This is a position for 0.8 FTE (32 hours per week) of the full-time working week.

The salary amounts to a minimum of €3.226 and a maximum of €5.090 gross per month for full time employment contract, based on UFO profile Data Steward and salary scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.

Tilburg University uses a neutral salary system for scaling that is based on relevant education and work experience.


This is a vacancy for a structural position in accordance with Article 2.3, paragraph 1 of the CLA for Dutch Universities.

You will be given a temporary employment contract for the duration of 12 months.

After this period, if your suitability has been proven and you continue in the same position, you will receive an employment contract for an indefinite period.


You are entitled to a vacation allowance of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% of your gross annual income.
