    Sr. Manager, Analytical Science Europe

    The Analytical Science team is part of the SABIC Corporate Technology and Innovation (T&I) organization, with multiple locations in Europe. The Analytical Science team provides a broad range of technical input for innovation projects, manufacturing issues, and customer issues via laboratory services in the area of chemicals and materials analysis. The team (27 FTE, including a regional leader and 2 team leaders), works across organizations and functions to help solve technical challenges in a project-based organization for multiple SBUs, Corporate, Customer, and Manufacturing needs.

    Currently we are looking for a Senior Manager, Analytical Science (fulltime) for the Analytical Science team in Europe.

    Preferred location for this job is in Geleen, the Netherlands, with expectation for presence in Bergen op Zoom on a weekly basis.

    Job Summary

    The role is to lead Analytical Science in Europe with focus on supporting SABIC needs in the region, and more specifically at our Technology centers in Bergen op Zoom and Geleen, Netherlands and Cartagena, Spain. The regional Analytical Sciences Leader must work to ensure optimum contribution to the business from the team. Inclusive in this role is the responsibility for the career development of individual contributors and accountability to collaborate with global counterparts to support the global project-based organization ensuring access to capabilities and expertise locally, regionally, and globally

  • Interface with stakeholders to prioritize projects and plan resources (i.e., staff, technology, budget) in support of ongoing business research & development needs.

  • Actively work with customers and internal stakeholders to analyze and understand market needs and strategically align analytical research and development activities to bring new capability to meet future business needs. This includes overseeing coordination with other internal /external labs, suppliers and universities in the execution of analytical projects and actively participating in the Analytical Community of Excellence across SABIC
  • Maintain and enhance the capabilities of the regional analytical laboratories in alignment with the business strategy. This includes working with stakeholders to define the effective level of resources, building core competencies via growth in expertise and instrument capabilities, developing budget proposals and leading capital investment planning/execution.
  • Champion the involvement of analytical technologists into project teams. Collaborate effectively with multi-functional, multi-disciplinary teams, providing guidance and technical solutions to develop and implement appropriate analytical methodologies and coordinate the analytical phase of various research projects, including protecting business interests and ensuring intellectual property is safeguarded.
  • Leverage your 2 team leaders to manage resources and drive day-to-day activities of the analytical laboratories to deliver prompt and high-quality analytical services.
  • Jointly with our EHSS team, responsible for training and regular communication to team members on site process safety management policies and standards at the site to ensure process safety compliance with government regulatory requirements and SABIC Company standards.
  • Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Chemistry/Materials Science; PhD or Master's Degree and/or Technical Degree Equivalent
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in research, industry, or commercial testing laboratory.
  • Technology affinity, strong research experience, familiar with common analytical research and technology processes
  • Extensive knowledge of emerging technologies in analytical domain as well as a good understanding and use of statistical tools.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirement and familiarity with ISO standards and accreditations
  • Familiarity with SBU business and knowledge of Petrochemical products, chemistry and processes.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, ability to implement projects in an R&D setting and ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent English communication (written and verbal), presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Self-starter, strong drive and ambition to drive improvements with the team, open and questioning personality.
