    The role

    We are seeking a dynamic and proficient Operations Manager (40 hours) for our office in Curacao. In this role, you will oversee the efficient management and coordination of all operational facets within our organization. Your responsibilities will encompass ensuring the quality, safety, and punctual delivery of projects while adhering to budgetary constraints. Your leadership will be instrumental in achieving operational excellence and fostering a culture of excellence within the shipyard.

    Key accountabilities

    Policy Development

  • Collaborating with the Managing Director and members of the Management Team to contribute to the development of strategies aimed at efficiently and effectively executing ship repair and conversion operations.
  • Advising the Management Team on short and medium-term operational excellence, investment and maintenance policies.
  • Ship Repair & Conversion:

  • Maximizing productivity and minimizing waste within the relevant processes.
  • Ensuring the highest standards of craftsmanship and safety with a strong focus on minimizing the environmental foot print of the ship repair and conversion activities.
  • Managing the costs of ship repair & conversion projects to ensure projects stay within budget.
  • Identifying and implementing new technologies and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the operation.
  • Advising the Commercial Manager on the feasibility and profitability of potential projects, considering the technical expertise and capacity of the yard.
  • Contributing to the risk assessment of certain projects and advising on possible ways to mitigate risks.
  • Customer Relations:

  • During the execution of the projects acts as key point of contact for customers and external stakeholders, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction through timely communication and effective issue resolution.
  • Ensuring that all projects meet customer expectations and that any additional work is accurately documented and invoiced.
  • Leadership:

  • Managing Project Managers, Production departments, and the Services department, including maintenance, nautical and logistics.
  • Providing adequate training and development opportunities for employees to enhance their skills and meet operational requirements.
  • Conducting performance reviews, appraisals, and sick leave conversations with direct subordinates.
  • Skills & experience

  • Technical knowledge on an academic level of Naval Architecture or Maritime engineering or similar.
  • A profound understanding of shipbuilding and ship repair processes is essential. This includes knowledge of ship construction, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, ship systems, and so forth.
  • Experience in the ship repair and conversion industry is typically required, preferably in managerial or supervisory roles. This could include experience as a project manager, marine engineer, shipyard manager, or a similar role involving leadership in ship repair and conversion activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Profound in English. Dutch or Papiamentu is a benefit.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
