Employment Opportunity Job Title Co-Curricular Advisor - Internal Applicants Only Department College Life Office Position Summary This position is available for Internal Applicants Only

This is an exciting time at Gettysburg College as we continue to implement Living Our Promise, The Strategic Plan for Gettysburg College. Central to the Strategic Plan are the Pathways, which provide a thematic organization to Gettysburg's co-curricular experiences, highlighting how students can gain and develop skills and utilize those skills to impact the world. Through the Pathways, students can select experiences in an intentional way, aligning those experiences with their interests and the skills they hope to strengthen. The Pathways also provide students with a framework to consider, and language to articulate, what they gained from each experience, how each experience builds upon others, and how those experiences complement their academic work. Ultimately, the structure provided by the Pathways enables students to communicate how their Gettysburg experience not only makes them compelling candidates for internships, graduate school admissions, and professional opportunities, but also prepares them for various pursuits as well-rounded human beings. In the inaugural year, 76% of the Fall 2023 entering class opted into the Pathways Program. While students recognize the importance of both their curricular and co-curricular experiences in their educational development, they consistently face difficulty in clearly and convincingly articulating the connections between what they learned in the classrooms and in their various co-curricular activities, why they navigate their undergraduate experience in the ways that they do, and how their experiences prepare them for their post-graduate pursuits. For this reason, an important focus of the strategic plan is to guide students through their Gettysburg experience inside and outside of the classroom and empower them to better articulate what they do, why they do it, and how it prepares them for their post-graduate ambitions. Sharpening our students' understanding of the integration of their curricular and co-curricular pursuits will enhance their Gettysburg experience and prepare them to lead lives of fulfillment and contribution upon graduation.Central to this goal are Co-curricular Advisors. Using the Pathways as a guide, Co-curricular Advisors work closely with students to help them develop awareness of the wide array of co-curricular experiences available to them, balance their ambitions with a need for maintaining well-being, align their co-curricular choices with their interests and goals, and work closely with students to ensure they are on track to satisfy co-curricular requirements. The Co-curricular advisor will serve as a core member of each student's personal Success Team, which also includes a faculty advisor, a career advisor, and, potentially, an alumni mentor.Position SummaryThe primary role of a Co-curricular Advisor is to work with students to think intentionally, broadly, and deeply about their co-curricular path by:· Ensuring students are aware of the wide array of co-curricular experiences available to them.· Helping students align their co-curricular choices with their personal and professional interests and goals.· Facilitating students' intentional reflection about their co-curricular experiences to help them understand what skills they have gained, how those skills integrate with their coursework, and how the totality of their experience prepares them for life post-Gettysburg.· Meeting with assigned advisees (up to 400 students) at least once per semester.· Verifying records of assigned advisees' co-curricular experiences in an online platform, engageGettysburg.· Collaborating with other members of each student's Success Team to promote holistic advising.· Collaborating and communicating with areas of the College responsible for the delivery of co-curricular experiences (e.g., the Center for Career Engagement, the Center for Public Service, the Garthwait Leadership Center, the Office of Student Activities and Greek Life, the Office of Multicultural Engagement, and International Student Services). Qualifications A Masters degree and at least one year of related graduate or professional experience is required. Broad experience with undergraduate co-curricular activities is preferred. Interest in and ability to advise and mentor undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds is required. A desire to work collaboratively with others in shaping and assessing the success of this new initiative is highly desired.
