    Senior Controller - FinTech Accounting

    Senior Controller is part of the FinTech Accounting team reporting to the Director of FinTech Accounting within the Global Accounting & Operations organization. It takes full ownership and responsibility of the accounting for a defined set of multiple entities being responsible for all fintech accounting activities, collaborating together with senior stakeholders in Finance and the business. The role manages a team of people managers and drives operations, engagement and development within a large team located in diverse worldwide locations.

    Tasks & Responsibilities

    • Lead the accounting activities across all FinTech Accounting Financial Close teams
    • Collaborate closely with senior stakeholders within Finance and the business unit
    • Take full ownership and responsibility of the accounting for a defined set of accounts across multiple Booking entities stretching across multiple locations, in accordance with US GAAP, local GAAP and compliance with both internal and external requirements
    • Sign off on the regular and timely preparation of all required financial reports and schedules for defined sets of entities
    • Sign off on the quality and integrity of the balance sheet and profit and loss for and the variance analysis for all accounts / entities / teams and complete the overall analysis
    • Lead and be responsible for all of the accounting activities for all fintech accounts
    • Guide the team in handling and solving complex bottlenecks and issues, for all matters impacting accounting. Own final issue resolution for items with potential global impact
    • Manage a team of people managers and drive operations, continuous improvements, engagement and development within a large team (15 to 20 FTEs direct and indirect) located in Amsterdam
    • Be responsible for the timely delivery and the integrity of the internal and/or external financial reporting
    • Initiate and own the strategic goals of the team, drive fintech accounting goals and objectives forward in line with the global accounting and finance roadmap and objectives.
    • Specific areas normally include the development and maintenance of analysis and interpretation of trends requiring management's attention, the preparation of financial and management reports, procedures and SOx and business controls, and the presentation of findings and specific recommendations to Senior Management
    • Produce finance-related reports for Senior Management, Director of FinTech Accounting and Chief Accounting Officer and the group company Booking Holdings where applicable.
    • Liaise with the cross-brand accounting teams, with 3rd party service providers and maintain good relations with them. May be involved in the fintech financial strategy process
    • Identify, develop and make improvements & drive automations with new ideas, techniques, procedures, services, products or cross-functional innovation and improvement projects in global accounting
    • Support and provide oversight to the accounting team with the monthly (quarterly, annual) closing process, review fintech accounting area and team, take ownership for their performance
    • Manage the balance sheet and profit and loss for the fintech business and complete the overall analysis
    • Be responsible for monthly closing reports, variance analysis and reconciliations for multiple entities in accordance with US GAAP, regulatory requirements and covering the SOx framework, and own the compliance with these
    • Ensure adherence for a defined set of accounts all compliance requirements including Sox, regulatory filings and external audits are met to fullest satisfaction.

    Required Education, Qualifications & Experience

    • Approx 12+ years experience in finance and/or accounting preferably within a multi-national company (Online Payments Accounting knowledge is beneficial)
    • University degree in Accounting, Business, or Economics
    • Post-graduate education (CPA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
    • Experience in Finance and/or accounting preferably within a Big4 environment and/or multinational corporate environment
    • Sound knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS and SOx
    • Strong experience managing teams, managing managers, coaching, and providing training on the job
    • Enthusiasm about developing and leading people
    • High levels of personal effectiveness, particularly communication, organization and the ability to focus on achieving project deadlines
    • Enthusiasm to work in a fast paced, highly diverse, continuous developing and informal high achieving environment
    • Proven ability and the credibility to persuade and influence in effecting changes within an organization
    • Strong interpersonal skills and stakeholder management
    • Enthusiastic, proactive and driven
    • Fluent in spoken and written English
    • Strong IT experience in financial systems, including SAP/S4/FICA, is preferable
