    Do you want to make an impact on future proof urban asset management through developing science-based designs for renewal of inner city quay walls?
    AMS Institute is involved in a national Growth Fund program aiming at the innovation of urban infrastructure asset management. It involves a large initiative on Multifunctional Quay Walls in which the Amsterdam Bridges and Quay Walls Programme is supported by exploring possibilities for integrating work on the renewal of quay walls with other urban transitions such as those related to energy, circularity, climate, urban green and heritage.

    About the job

    Your task will be to coordinate a very complex program. Firstly, the Multifunctional Quay walls program involves 7 academic work packages which will be led by professors at three universities who will give guidance to various PhDs and PDs. Secondly, the program will combine fundamental research with a Research through Design methodology and real live field labs as a test bed. Thirdly, the process must be client-oriented, in other words must address the needs and capacity of the municipality as well as the contractors involved in the building of quay walls. We expect you to build a solid team, steer the results on impact, and make the program happen. In the end, you will be successful when the results of the project will be implemented in the City of Amsterdam, and possibly beyond. The intended duration of the program is 5 years.

    Your coordination involves
    • Team building involving all partners in the program, in such a way that both academics, municipal officers and company representatives share common goals and feel safe to bring their expertise to the community; organize meetings and internal communication;
    • Steering the project content-wise, on the one hand, to secure input of all relevant expertise and ideas in the design phase, and arrive at integrated solutions. On the other hand, make choices to obtain realistic prototypes of new multifunctional quay walls; organize the story to be told on the results and external communication;
    • Contacting other leaders involved in the National Growth Fund project Future Proof Renewal on a regular basis, in order to detect possibilities for exchanges of knowledge, ideas and methods on the various assets at stake as well as Living Lab and Safe Space Dialogue methodologies
    • Assisting the National Growth Fund lead to report on the progress made with a focus on the story to be told about innovations designed and scale-up possibilities for use in other cities, both national and international. Assisting the AMS Climate Resilient Cities lead in finding resources for follow-up research
    Who are you?

    The program coordinator loves to connect people and has a goal-oriented attitude. You want to achieve results in the field of urban asset management and innovation. You easily switch back and forth between science, government and business. You bring together the divergent visions and interests of the partners and convert these into activities with a clear owner. You dare to make decisions.

    Job requirements
    • Master's degree and/or PhD in a relevant subject;
    • Very extensive experience in developing, starting and managing complex R&D and innovation projects;
    • Extensive experience in collaborating in academia and with partners across the boundaries of the own organization;
    • Experience in the field and sector of urban asset management;
