Functiebeschrijving
In deze afstudeeropdracht onderzoek je de integratie van stateful storage in Kubernetes, gericht op het verbeteren van dataopslag voor stateful microservices. Je verkent nieuwe oplossingen binnen cloud native stateful storage, analyseert huidige problemen, en beoordeelt de haalbaarheid van diverse oplossingen in een multi-cloud omgeving. Jouw werk draagt bij aan de ontwikkeling van geavanceerde, schaalbare opslagmethoden, essentieel voor toekomstgerichte applicaties.
Functie-eisen
Traditioneel is Kubernetes ontworpen voor 'stateless' applicaties, oftewel applicaties die geen data bevatten. In de praktijk blijkt echter dat het ontwikkelen van volledig stateless applicaties niet past bij de schaal van onze klanten. Dit is een trend die ook in het bredere cloud native speelveld te zien is. Om deze reden is er binnen Kubernetes steeds meer ondersteuning voor stateful applicaties aan het ontstaan, met name op het gebied van storage.
Omdat dit een relatief nieuw terrein is, zijn er nog geen de facto standaardoplossingen voor het aanbieden van cloud native storage. Bovendien weten wij nog niet wat voor onze klanten de meest effectieve manier is om van deze storage gebruik te maken, mochten wij uiteindelijk een passende oplossing vinden.
Arbeidsvoorwaarden
De opdracht
Jij gaat aan de slag met een onderzoek naar cloud native stateful storage, met als doel het aanbieden van schaalbare, flexibele en high-performance dataopslag die geschikt is voor stateful microservices in Kubernetes. Hierbij zal je rekening houden met het aanbieden van deze dienstverlening vanuit zowel de cloud (Azure) als de Info Support-datacenters.
In je onderzoek zul je vragen beantwoorden zoals:
Toon de effectiviteit van de storage-oplossing aan de hand van een proof of concept.
Dit kun je bijvoorbeeld doen door de storage-oplossing in een multi-cloud omgeving (Azure, Info Support) toe te passen in een high-performance applicatie, zoals Elasticsearch.
