A Short-Term Appointment is used to recruit staff to meet short-term needs. The duration of this assignment is provided above. The maximum duration of a short-term appointment including extensions shall not exceed 12 months.


A Short-Term Appointment does not carry any expectancy, legal or otherwise, of renewal and shall not be converted to any other type of appointment.


Due to the short-term nature of the assignment, the ICC reserves the right to make an appointment at one grade lower than that stated in the vacancy with a modified job description.

The terms and conditions of service for staff members appointed under a short-term appointment are governed by ICC/AI/2016/001.


Organisational Context


The Immediate Office of the Prosecutor (IOP) provides support and critical services to the Prosecutor and the Office with marginal resources, facilitating the Office's overall aims of being an effective and efficient organ of the Court.

IOP performs a variety of critical support, review and advisory functions, notably providing substantive advice and administrative support to the Prosecutor in the implementation of his functions, while more broadly ensuring quality control and management of the Office.

On behalf of the Prosecutor, IOP also acts as an interface with the other organs of the Court ensuring effective inter-organ relations and communication as well as cooperation in the overall administration of the Court, and works closely with all components of the Office to organize and record meetings for senior management, implement the Prosecutor's instructions on any matter so requested and ensure consistency in standards and approach in line with the Prosecutor's vision and lessons learned.

ti**es**The incumbent will serve in the Immediate Office of the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP), reporting to the Adviser to the Prosecutor, and is responsible for the following:
  • Assist with the processing of invitations extended to the Prosecutor;
  • Assist with the communication of the Prosecutor's directives to OTP Pillars, Divisions, sections, units and Unified Teams;
  • Conduct independent legal research and analysis on a wide range of issues, typically for the preparation of background papers for the Prosecutor's engagements;
  • Provide assistance in drafting or reviewing legal documents, reports, presentations, speaking notes, and selected correspondence
  • Perform any other duties as required.

An advanced university degree in law, political science, or a related field.

A first level university degree in combination with two years of qualifying experience is accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.


  • Work Experience_:_


A minimum of two years (zero years with an advanced level university degree) in providing managerial support to senior officials and in facilitating decision process at senior management meetings is required.

Experience in analysing, preparing, drafting, reviewing and editing of complex legal documents, is required

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:_
  • Familiarity with criminal law or international criminal law, international organisations and international relations;
  • Excellent skills in communication, presentation, and drafting and an ability to prepare and present detailed and accurate meeting minutes as well as reports that are concise and accurately reflect the discussions; ability to pay attention to detail;
  • Strong analytical, planning and organisational skills, with flexibility and ability to adjust in a highly dynamic environment;
  • Excellent coordination and supervisory skills and the ability to interact with senior officials; Ability to work effectively under strict deadlines and under stress;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multiethnic environment and to maintain effective working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Ability to keep strict standards of confidentiality; and
  • Professional integrity.
  • K_n_o_w_l_e_d_g_e_ _o_f _L_a_n_g_u_a_g_e_s:_
Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, French or English, is required. Working language of the other language is highly desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) would be considered an asset.
