What will your mission be?:
One of the key advantages of the BSF larvae is their ability to grow on a wide range of different feedstocks.
As feedstock & rearing technologist you will be working within the engineering team (Projects & Technology) and closely with our Operational and R&D departments.
Your goal is to unlock the potential of lower value feed streams as input for our production process and optimize the rearing process, such as the larvae yield and energy efficiency.
Moreover, when needed you will test equipment and manage experimental trials related to the feedstock and rearing process areas to optimize the process and provide input for the design of future facilities.
In order to ensure the safety of the feedstock and our downstream process, until the end product leaves the facility, we need to fully understand the process and risks related to feedstock, rearing and processing the larvae.
This may include understanding the risks associated with lower value ingredients, such as physical contaminants or pathogens, and even the availability and logístical parameters related to these ingredients.
We are continuously innovating to provide our larvae with a stable and high-quality feed recipe based on ever lower value ingredients.
In doing so, you will also contribute to our technology innovation roadmap for these process areas and keep sustainability in mind (such as ensuring a low carbon footprint) which honors one of our Protix values: Care about mother earth.
What will be your responsibilities?:
You answer questions like:
- What process steps are required for different types of feedstocks, in order to create a recipe for optimal growth?
- How to optimize the climate control for the rearing process
Your actions may include to:
- Evaluate and develop processes for new feedstock ingredients
- Conduct and support highlevel technoeconomic and life cycle assessments of new feedstock and/or rearing process designs
- Align with internal stakeholders for the development of the feedstock and rearing innovation technology roadmaps
- Ensure a safe, contaminate free and stable production recipe
- Keeping up to date with regulatory, policy and legislation changes associated with potential lower value feedstock ingredients
- Keeping up to date with the latest external research, knowledge and trends related to BSF rearing.
Who are you?:
- Bachelor or master in chemical engineering, food technology or processing
- Minimum of 5 years work experience, including but not limited to: process design, food or feed production, research and development, project management, animal nutrition, TEA & LCA's, insect rearing, waste valorization and upcycling.
- Fluent in English, both speaking and writing. Knowledge of the Dutch language is an advantage.
- You are able to shape and structure projects in a selfsufficient manner.
- You can communicate well and are able to align stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Selfstarting, proactive and a have a drive for sustainability.
- You keep the bigger picture in mind and are goal driven.
- You are interested in working in a fast changing work environment.
