    The Ecology and Evolution section at the Amsterdam Institute for Life and Environment (A-LIFE) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is accepting applications for a tenured full-time research technician position with focus on animal ecology. The section Ecology and Evolution answers fundamental ecological and evolutionary questions regarding the relationship between organisms and their environment at the full array of hierarchical levels: from molecular ecology to ecosystem research.

    Job description

    The technician will work to support research and teaching activities within the section Ecology and Evolution. The role will encompass a variety of tasks including:
  • participate in field and lab research
  • measurements and quantification of reproductive, behavioural and morphological traits on study organisms, especially invertebrates
  • identification of invertebrates and their anatomical structures
  • use, maintenance and management of technical equipment, such as field cameras, acoustic monitoring devices, moth traps
  • setting up and maintaining invertebrate laboratory cultures
  • Requirements

  • HLO diploma or equivalent with specialization in ecology
  • hands-on experience with at least two of the following activities: field work use and maintenance of technical equipment species identification invertebrate culturing
  • drivers licence
  • ability to communicate in both written and spoken English and Dutch
  • work independently and systematically towards deadlines
  • enthusiasm to work in academic teams
  • open to continuously learning new techniques
  • What are we offering?

    A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,072 (scale 8)
    and a maximum €4,103 (scale 8), depending on your education and experience. The job profile is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.

    The initial employment contract will affect a period of 1 year.
