    The Research Chemist COI lab – Metal rolling will work within the Centre of Innovation (COI) Metals lab, located in Uithoorn. Mainly work on innovation projects aligned with our ambitious sustainability agenda as well as focusing on staying ahead of the steel, aluminum and other non-ferrous metals market trends such as the introduction of clean energy sources, new electrical metal applications and whatever comes next.

  • What will you do?

  • Specifically, this position serves as a specialist in understanding the underlying chemical and physiochemical mechanisms in support of the product development laboratoria for the global steel and non-ferrous rolling market.
  • Execute research projects as part of an experienced team and in cooperation with a large variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Independently develop and execute test methods to simulate chemical and physiochemical phenomena linked to customer processes.
  • Lubrication and interaction with metal surfaces are an important part of the job. Findings are substantiated with surface analysis and chemical analysis techniques.
  • Providing support to the development labs and product management team in solving complex customer questions and in the development of innovative and sustainable lubricants.
  • Clearly and orderly record, report and present your observations and conclusions to lab management and peers.
  • What do we look for?

  • Experience: At least 5 years working in a similar role, ideally within a multinational company environment in the chemical sector such as lubricants, greases, oils, coatings or other surface science related subjects. This is a role for someone who is motivated to work with both chemical & physiochemical matters and with a good balance between stakeholder meetings, benchwork and theoretical work. All product training needed is offered upon onboarding by a highly knowledgeable and senior team.
  • Education: Bachelor degree & above in the physical chemistry, colloid chemistry, inorganic chemistry or organometallic chemistry area.
  • Language skills: English good verbal and written communication level is a must.
  • Soft skills: Results driven, self-starting, pragmatic, open minded, intrinsic curiosity, good communicator and influencer.
  • High safety consciousness is a must. Safety is at the core of our culture.
