    Mission as Engineering Manager

    As an Engineering Manager your goal is to unlock value through engineering. Whether that means unblocking and enabling your teams, helping them make the best decisions, solving complex technical problems, finding ways to deliver large-scale initiatives or even questioning assumptions, you will be in the thick of it all. In this technical leadership role, you will partner closely with the other Engineering Managers, Product Managers and the Architects. In addition to this, you will work closely with the leaders of the other departments within FRISS. As part of this role, you will be expected to work from the FRISS office in Utrecht, Netherlands several times a week.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and provide line management to 2-3 teams of engineers
    • Set technical direction, guide teams towards the right outcomes, contribute to the technical roadmap in an Agile environment
    • Help engineers in your teams grow their skills and experience
    • Establish and maintain engineering best practices across your teams
    • Actively seek, interview and hire globally-distributed talent
    • Prepare your successors to succeed in your role
    • Conduct performance reviews and help your teams reach their potential
    • Coordinate resolution of incidents, outages, fixing of critical bugs
    • Solve technical and business problems in collaboration with your teams
    • Maintain product quality, security and performance
    • Maintain active communication channels with your stakeholders, teams and peers

    • Generating ideas, structuring requirements for improving ways of working and delegating the implementation to engineers in your teams
    • Helping your teams understand and solve problems within different technical domains - Web App Engineering, UI development, fraud detection engine development, data engineering, ML pipeline engineering, etc.)
    • Leading the delivery of large-scale change programs
    • Removing blockers for teams and constantly improving their productivity
    • Working with architects and senior engineers to get to the right outcomes for the company
    • Working with Azure and cloud-native applications
    • Explaining difficult technical trade-offs to diverse groups of stakeholders
    • Managing vendor relationships and off-shore delivery teams
