TenneT is growing fast to realize its strategic ambitions. We play a leading role in driving the energy transition. We are looking for a passionate Head of Finance & Control at our location Arnhem who will contribute to this and that might be you?

  • The Dutch and German governments have set ambitious targets for enabling the European energy transition, which TenneT is enabling with its portfolio of large projects. In the Netherlands we are developing greenfield onshore high voltage connections, which are essential to the success of the energy transition. These are all innovative, multidisciplinary, megaprojects which drive the Energy Transition. We are looking for a Head Finance & Control Large Projects NL who will contribute to this.
  • In this position, you and your team are the Business Partner for the Large Projects Netherlands (LPN) unit. Together with this unit, it is ensured that TenneT's major onshore projects are completed on time, in quality and within budget. As Codrivers, particular attention is paid to efficiency and transparency within the many decisionmaking processes that each project brings along. TenneT's financial health is supported through accurate financial forecasts, meaningful reporting and compliance with laws and regulations.
  • The Head Finance & Control Large Projects Onshore NL, is part of the Business Guidance unit and reports to the Director Business Guidance. The Head is an inspiring leader, empowering the team and growing its performance, further professionalizing project control, governance and risk management

Your contribution to TenneT:

- _Accountable business partner for technical Large Projects Netherlands unit (LPN)

  • Responsible for all activities relating to the Planning and Control cycle including management reporting focussed on the large projects and the unit LPN.
  • Leadership of the Project Steering Group (PSG) as Co-Chair of the PSG together with the Director LPN.
  • Challenging the projects and steering on the program goals in a way which is valued by the project teams and without managing or stepping into the projects yourselves.
  • Ensuring that project management (personal competences, project execution strategies procedures etc.) is at an international "state of the art" level.
  • Ensuring professional project control and professional/precise forecasting, in close cooperation with and developed by (c)PMO, including implementation of all related procedures and standards in the projects.
  • Ensuring high quality project plans, progress and exception reports, decision documents, evaluations and implementation of PSG decisions as well as safeguarding a state of the art project risk management within projects.
  • Developing, monitoring and reviewing, in close cooperation with the Financial Project Directors (FPDs) and relevant other departments, overarching project execution strategies like EPCM, combined tender procedures etc. The Head secures this e.g. by being member of Tender Boards and/or ITT Steering Committees.
  • Managing escalations: the Head is in cooperation with the Director LPN the first level of escalation on behalf of TenneT towards (a) key stakeholders like landowners, windfarm developers, local and regional authorities etc. and (b) contractors and suppliers by supporting the FPDs herein (and not taking over).
  • Liaising and cooperating with the Asset Management Department to ensure that new projects are feasible from a project management perspective and that the first estimates and budgets are reasonable.
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards (IFRS), regulatory guidelines and the framework of TenneT' s corporate manuals and guidelines.
  • And above all: assuring an excellent safety culture in close cooperation with the FPDs and together with the team manager HSE reaching the safety goals of TenneT, and herewith contributing actively to a safe working environment for yourself, your colleagues and contractors.

Your profile and background:


  • Academic working and thinking level, and a relevant university degree;.
  • Strong financial backbone and more than 10 years of experience in managing organizations dealing with multiple large and complex infra and/or offshore projects with a diversity of stakeholders and complex business cases.
  • Excellent (project) management skills: push results: technical and financial performance, HSE, planning and quality in a high risk environment.
  • Preferably experience with sectors like Energy, Offshore, Infrastructure and Technology.
  • Broad leadership experience and well developed competencies which embody TenneT's leadership principles Connection, Ownership and Courage.
  • You are an empathic leader, with both an eye for people and results, able to functionally lead, motivate and give direction to a team of professionals and you are a team player yourself.
  • You have excellent communication skills.
  • Respected and trusted partner for Board, Directors and a diverse group of stakeholders outside Tenne
