Are you available for a temporary period to assist our Phytopathology department on research on plant resistance to pests and pathogens?

What are you going to do?

As an Assistant Researcher Phytopathology you will assist the research team in developing sustainable methods identifying new resistance mechanisms that have the potential to be implemented in breeding programs.

This requires adopting creative new ways of phenotyping plant resistance, an understanding of pest and pathogen biology and their required bioassays and data analysis and presentation.

You will develop your own niche expertise in phytopathology based on breeding needs and personal interest and expertise, and you will be responsible for keeping up to date with scientific frontiers in that field.

In this process you seek constant alignment with colleagues at the work floor, thus making sure your solutions will be easily implemented.

There will be ample of opportunities for professional self-development in this position. You will report to the Senior Researcher.

This is temporary vacancy for a period of 7 months, starting as soon as possible.

Your power

You are passionate about plants and their pathogenic enemies.

You have a life sciences background and are knowledgeable in some of the following fields; phytopathology, genetics, molecular biology, microbiology and/or biochemistry.

Your natural curiosity drives you to investigate tasks at hand. Based on your diagnosis you come up with creative solutions fitting situational needs.

For you, a research project does not end with presenting results:
you make sure your findings and solutions are embedded in clear protocols and implemented at the work floor.

One of your key assets is your ability to interact at different organizational levels and share your knowledge with people at the work floor in an understandable matter.

In short you:
- have a MSc in Plant Sciences or Biotechnology preferably with experience in phytopathology;- have strong analytical and problem-solving skills;- stay on top of the latest (scientific) developments and are able to share your expertise in multidisciplinary teams and on different levels;- have a collaborative mindset and feel for participation in internal and external projects from an industry perspective;- are well organized and capable of dealing with deadlines;- are fluent in English, Dutch is a plus;- are a strong communicator with a proactive personality.
