Platform Engineering
The Platform Engineering super track is composed of tracks and their respective teams that own collections of primarily tier 0 services. We strive for operational excellence and do not compromise on availability or performance on behalf of our customers.
Platform Configuration Management team
The team is part of the Private Cloud track. We provide Puppet as a service to manage the server fleet the same way on bare metal, in Private and Public Clouds. The team is responsible for providing a stable service and consulting, though we do not write the Puppet code for other teams. Besides Puppet, we provide security-related services to manage security certificates and private key management.
We avoid narrow specialization to avoid creating bottlenecks. The team members might work on any part of the services: developing new features, debugging a bug deep inside the distributed systems, researching the reliability improvements. As a team member, you will work on planned tasks within 2-week long sprints. We provide internal support for our services during the office hours. We prefer Python for scripting and service development. Though, general awareness of the technologies and development practices will help you.

The core premise for the Booking SRE lies in treating operational issues as software problems. We code our way out of problems where operations are concerned, addressing availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency challenges within the vast infrastructure here at Booking. You will impact millions of people all over the globe with your creative solutions. You will be working in one of the biggest e-commerce companies in the world. You will solve exciting problems at scale by writing and deploying code across tens of thousands of servers. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with many of the world's leading SREs. You will be free to launch your ideas and solutions within our complex production environment.
What you'll be doing:
Job Summary
The core premise for SRE lies in treating operations as a software problem where operations are concerned with addressing availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency for 's systems & services. At its core, the SRE is tasked with engineering efforts to solve complex problems, requiring a strong aptitude to develop software systems that will minimize (i.e. through automation) human labor and increase system & service reliability. A Booking Reliability Engineering team has full vertical ownership of a system, from server configuration up to the application interfaces. This enables the team to have full control of service and avoid situations where different teams own different areas of a system and some parts fall between the cracks. SRE can wear several hats; at times an SRE might be part of the product development team themselves and other times will act as a consultant to support a product development team to implement the Booking Reliability Engineering best practices. As systems & services grow in size and complexity so too does the operational overhead. It is a fundamental principle of SRE to break this relationship between operational toil, system size, and complexity. This also requires the team to limit operations work enforcing engineering development efforts that are at the heart of Booking Reliability Engineering. Ultimately, the fundamental software engineering skills coupled with strong systems and networking knowledge will guide the SRE to create more reliable systems & services that are highly available, which scale with growth and that are efficient and latency-sensitive.
