Beschrijving

At Genmab, we're committed to building extra[not]ordinary futures together, by developing antibody products and pioneering, knock-your-socks-off therapies that change the lives of patients and the future of cancer treatment and serious diseases.

From our people who are caring, candid, and impact-driven to our business, which is innovative and rooted in science, we believe that being proudly unique, determined to be our best, and authentic is essential to fulfilling our purpose.

The role

Join our translational data science team at Genmab's Utrecht office as a student intern.

The team supports the transition of a new drug from discovery to clinical trials through various data science analyses that support indication selection, patient stratification, drug combination prediction and biomarker selection.

This internship offers the opportunity to enhance our toolkit with glycomics analyses and develop hands-on skills in bioinformatics and computational biology, directly contributing to pioneering cancer research with potential clinical impact.

Project background:
6 months internship project 'Exploring cancer's sugary secrets: a deep dive into glycosylation modulation gene expression profiles'

Glycosylation is a pivotal post-translational modification influencing oncogenesis and tumor progression.

Our initial investigation into the variability and potential universality of glycosylation regulation signatures across various cancer types has yielded significant insights.

By analyzing RNA sequencing data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project, we identified ten distinct glycosylation regulation profiles across 33 tumor types.

This foundational work, focusing on 950 glycosylation-associated genes, utilized principal component analysis (PCA) and k-means clustering to reveal both unique and common glycosylation patterns across cancers, linking certain profiles to prognostic outcomes, especially in clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

Responsibilities:

  • Validation: Validate the preliminary findings with additional ccRCC dataset(s). Conduct statistical and bioinformatics analyses, including PCA, clustering, and survival analysis.
  • Data exploration: correlate glycosylation profiles to additional clinically relevant parameters to further explore the impact of glycosylation in cancer progression
  • Functional Analysis:
Perform functional enrichment analysis on genes associated with prognostically favorable glycosylation profiles to understand their biological implications in cancer progression. Integration with other omics data: Incorporate other types of omics data (e.g., proteomics, metabolomics) to explore the relationship between glycosylation patterns and other cellular processes.- Present your findings in team meetings.

Requirements:

  • Education: You are a master student in bioinformatics, data science or a related field
  • Technical skills:
You have experience with programming in R and/or Python for bioinformatics analysis, you are familiar with bioinformatics databases and tools, and have a basic understanding of machine learning techniques

  • Soft skills:
You are creative, pro-active, organized and enjoy solving puzzles.

About You

  • You are passionate about our purpose and genuinely care about our mission to transform the lives of patients through innovative cancer treatment
  • You bring rigor and excellence to all that you do. You are a fierce believer in our rootedinscience approach to problemsolving
  • You are a generous collaborator who can work in teams with diverse backgrounds
  • You are determined to do and be your best and take pride in enabling the best work of others on the team
  • You are not afraid to grapple with the unknown and be innovative
  • You have experience working in a fastgrowing, dynamic company (or a strong desire to)
  • You work hard and are not afraid to have a little fun while you do so
