    Introduction

Royal IHC is leading supplier of maritime technology and expert craftsmanship. Royal IHC delivers equipment, vessels and services which are reliable, integrated solutions to improve operational efficiency and allow for more sustainable solutions.

    Background

Royal IHC has been working on the basic design and built of a next generation reel lay vessel capable of installing complex flowlines in water depths up to 3,000 m. Most pipe lay vessels have the tower amidships. This design has the tower fully on the aftship. This results in an atypical weight distribution influencing the loading of the vessel.

    Assignment

Investigate the impact of the location of the pipe lay tower on the wave bending moment and the weight distribution induced dynamic bending moment.

Rule wave bending moment does not separately account for the contributions of dynamic wave bending moment and static wave bending moment.

Further investigate the contributions of the two different phenomena to the total design wave bending moment.

    Learning goals:

  • Understanding of the different contributions to the wave bending moment
  • Understanding the background of the regulations regarding wave bending moment
  • Understanding the impact of different contributions to vessel loading on the hull girder design.
  • Limiting parameters on the design (sea state, current and wind forces, water depth Total bending moment)
