Roger Puértolas i Fortea

During my academic training at University, I received formation about different fields such as macroeconomics, labor economics, and others. However, it was in the Finance field where I got more interested in my academics. I studied Financial Derivatives, Risk Management, and Forecasting Techniques, which sparked my passion for business intelligence and data analysis. I also have a keen interest in programming, which I find to be an excellent complement to my analytical skills. As a driven and curious individual, I am always seeking new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow in my career.
 

I currently serve as a Thesis Intern at SkyClear Consultants in Heerlen, the Netherlands, where I apply machine learning techniques to forecast key performance indicators and create comprehensive dashboards. This role has honed my skills in Python and PowerBI.

Additionally, I'm a Finance Department Tutor at Maastricht University, where I provide guidance to third-year Bachelor students in courses such as Sustainable Financial Management and Policy, as well as Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management.

Prior to this, I completed an internship at 5 Sentits, Gestió, in Barcelona, Spain, focusing on accounting services for small and medium-sized firms. I specialized in financial controlling for small businesses and offered advisory support to freelancers for optimizing their financial processes.

My leadership and organizational skills were further developed during my time as the Coordinator of Winter/Summer Camp at Lluïsos de Gràcia in Barcelona. In this role, I proficiently programmed and managed various camp activities, led a team of instructors, and successfully facilitated the participation of over 170 children.

Lastly, during my freelance tutoring experience in Barcelona, I conducted reinforcement sessions for students, specializing in mathematics, ADE (Business), and language subjects.

These experiences have equipped me with a diverse skill set and a strong foundation in data analytics, finance, leadership, and mentoring, making me a well-rounded professional ready to take on new challenges.

I recently completed my Master of Science (MSc) in Business Intelligence & Smart Services with a focus on Business Analytics at the School of Business and Economics (SBE), Maastricht University, in the Netherlands. During this program, I achieved a GPA of 8.62/10, demonstrating my dedication to mastering concepts in service design, data analysis, machine learning, and business intelligence. My thesis, "Forecasting Revenue for Dutch Enterprises: A Random Forest approach," received a grade of 8, underscoring my ability to apply advanced analytical techniques to real-world business challenges.

Prior to that, I earned another MSc in Financial Economics with a specialization in Asset Pricing from SBE, Maastricht University. I maintained a GPA of 7.94/10 throughout the program, with a thesis titled "Forecasting Recession in Spain: A Comparison of the Term Structure and European Business Cycle Indicators," which also received a grade of 8. This degree equipped me with a deep understanding of financial markets, quantitative techniques, and monetary policy.

My academic journey began with a Bachelor of Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, Spain. Here, I excelled with a GPA of 7.72/10 and delved into courses such as data analysis, macroeconomics, and financial derivatives. My standout achievement during this time was my thesis on the "Feasibility of a monetary union between the ASEAN members," which earned a remarkable grade of 9.3.

These educational experiences have not only provided me with a strong foundation in economics, finance, and analytics but have also nurtured my passion for solving complex business and economic challenges.
